Walmart (WMT) has been one of the most explosive stocks on the market.

In fact, while most of the major indices collapse around it, the retailer rallied from a recent low of about $118 to a recent high of $123.80. From here, we’d like to see it refill its bearish gap at around $133.33 initially.

Fueling upside in the stock, WMT expanded agreement with Symbotic includes an initial $6 billion commitment for automation systems. For Walmart, the potential benefit is straightforward: moving products through its distribution network more efficiently could help control costs, replenish shelves faster and support online orders. Those improvements could strengthen profitability over time, although the investment will take time to pay off.

Walmart also announced a strategic investment in Texas-based Base Power, whose home battery systems are designed to help customers manage electricity costs and provide backup power during outages. The move could give Walmart another way to reach shoppers beyond its traditional retail offerings. Together, the announcements offer a possible explanation for the stock’s strength: Walmart is investing in both a more efficient business and new services for customers. However, neither announcement alone establishes what is driving today’s rally.

Sincerely,
